There are many reasons to put up a fence around your property. Perhaps you're finding that your Richmond Virginia real estate is being invaded by pesky critters. Maybe you're thinking you'd like to let the dog out to run around. Or maybe you're having problems with your neighbors not respecting your property boundaries. Whatever your reasons for getting a fence, you'll have a wide variety of options to choose from when you go to pick one out. This article can help you get familiar with some common styles of fence.
Material
Wood is probably the most common material used in modern fencing. Wooden fences can be tailored to match the look of your house for sale in Scarborough by using different types of wood (pine or oak for example) or by painting the finished fence and adding post toppers. Other commonly used materials include chain link (mostly used for industrial fences) wrought iron (which is very expensive) and metal/plastic composites that offer the look of wood with additional durability. Simple wood remains the cheapest fencing material.
Height
Most residential fences are about six feet high, which is high enough that children and dogs can't climb over but short enough that you can look over on your tip toes if need be. The height of your fence will be determined by what you want to use it for. If it's just a decorative fence, you can get away with making it waist high. However if you want to protect your Toronto Beaches real estate from burglars, you're looking at ten feet in height at least.
Privacy
The distance between posts in your fence will be determined by whether or not your goal is for the fence to provide privacy from the other Bradford houses for sale nearby. If your goal is to be decorative and stop larger animals, you can get away with pickets that are a few inches apart or by using latticework or chain link. However, if you want to keep prying eyes out of your yard, you'll need to snug the posts up against one another, which necessarily eliminates wrought iron and chain link unless you want to back them up with plywood.
Security
How secure do you want your fence to be? If you're only worried about the neighbor's kids getting in and falling into your swimming pool, a simple gate with an inside flip latch is all you really need. But if your Toronto real estate needs to be secure, the better option is to include no gate at all, forcing anyone who wants access to your yard to go through your house. Alternatively, you can also use a number keypad or combination lock on your gate.
